School’s Out: Making the Most of Your Summer
BREATHE
You have done it! Your school year is over (in likely the most challenging teaching year of your teaching life) and now your life has time and space to breathe! What does this mean? For me it means, morning coffee on the deck overlooking our spectacular mountains, during the heat of the day sitting on the couch binge-watching something with my family and late night outside playtime with our neighbors. It even means still getting up at 5:30 am and actually having a bit longer meditation, letting the inhale do its thing and leaning into the exhale. Exhaling all that needs to exit my mind and heart from the year. Allowing my body to release the stress of what was and know that I have this time, this space, this month to finally just breathe. Below is the most simple mediation to allow yourself to breathe. I encourage you to commit to this meditation for at least 10 days, allowing yourself to let the year go, cleansing your heart and mind in order to embrace what the month of June is for all teachers; a break! Take this break and breathe.
Square Breath Mediation: Inhale for a count of four, hold it for a count of four, exhale for a count of four, hold it for a count of four, repeat
